there can be any amount. so we can set a rank to go up every 10, 100, 1000 or even 10,000 posts.

How about linking them to the Mature of the books?
eg.
0-49 Spot The Dog
50-99 Mr Happy
100-249 Matilda
250-499 Harry Potter
500-999 Sharpe
1000-4999 Tolstoy
5000+ Stephen Hawking
