Petition(cervical cancer)cross posted(not my family member)
In Jan 2006, I lost a family member to Cervical cancer.
At the time, I had to research it, and find out everything there was to know about this cancer, which is 1. common 2. not screened for in over 60s.
Stupid when you consider the over 60s are the most common age group of cervical cancer victims.
It can often be a very aggressive and fast growing cancer, which spreads very Quickly to other organs, and there is not much you can do, once the cancer has taken hold, when tha patient is elderly and unfit for surgery.
Sign this petition....CERVICAL CANCER CAN BE ERADICATED!!!!
In over 90% of Cervical cancer incidences, HPV (Human papilloma virus - an STD with no symptoms and no specific test to identify it) is present. HPV in itself has no symptoms of side effects, but it leads to cancer in many cases.
GARDASIL is to be given to young women, between the ages of 9-26. to protect against HPV strains which are implicated in the development of cervical cancer.
SIGN THE PETITION SO THAT ALL WOMEN ARE GIVEN THE SAME PROTECTION AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER!

I have also read research about the protection against HPV that it can actually cause long term damage too, so am unsure about this, I think the most important issue is that women of whatever age should have regular screening for pre-cancerous cells. It might not be very digiified and its a bit embarrasing but it can save your life and it only takes a few minutes!
