Do you find that............Once you have read a book and then watch the film that goes with that book, the film is never as good as the book??
My other half doesnt agree, but then he'd rather watch the film anyway.

i think we are usually let down by film adaptations because they conflict with our views of characters and settings. and usually they cut parts out for times sake. take "Watchers" for instance. it's an awesome book, but there have been 4 films on it and all are crap.

The only movies I have prefared to the books have the be The lord of the Rings trilogy. That could have just been down to me not really being interested in fantasy books though.

Other than LOTR, there aren't many movies based on books that I've actually read the book first. But I thought LOTR was awesome, Peter Jackson didn't put a foot wrong with what he changed, and the characterisations were all spot on.

TV often does better than cinema, for example Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes, or Joan Hickson as Miss Marple.

I never think films are as good as the books.....
One of my fave books as a child, which I read again in the summer, was Charlottes Web, which is being brought out as a movie in Feb... undecided as to whether to watch or not, in case it spoils it!

For me books are definately better, the films are always dissapointing as the people they cast for the roles in the book never match up to what I had in my imagination. Bridgett Jones was an example of this for me, Renee Zelwegger just wasnt Bridgett for me!

i think you nailed it there books allow us to loose our imaginations and become part of the book/story where as with a movie you are restricted to whats presented in front of you. having said that i have an ability to switch my brain off and enjoy movies for what they are. so i can enjoy the book and the film.

the whole point of reading a book is it gets your imagination going as you make a picture of the characters and places in your mind.
Seeing it in screen takes all the imagination away as all the images are done for you.
the book is always better and should be read before watching the film {if you must watch the film}

Really? I didn't think the stand worked at all it got sooooo slow around the middle and it was about 5 hours long or something. I loved the Movie version of It as a kid, apart from the end, that crappy spider monster was laughable. "that's battery acid creep" lol. Come to think of it, it ruined the whole thing.

the stand is one of my favourtie films i think its ace! i liked IT as well agree about harry potter films but still watch them!
i think the reason i like to watch the film is to see how different the picture i built up of the character in my mind is from the person in the film!
